Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to assess the influence of health care worker’s social demographic characteristics on adherence to the IMNCI guidelines in management of children below 5 years in Isiolo County. A descriptive cross-sectional design was adopted and a structured questionnaire employed in data collection. Descriptive and inferential statistics was applied in data analysis and presentation. The overall adherence to the IMNCI guideline was low (47.7%). The bivariate analysis showed that adherence level was higher among females (p=0.012) and among the IMNCI trained HCW’s (p=0.050). Age (p=0.911), Academic Qualifications (p=0.950) and Years of Clinical Experience (p=0.322) had no association with adherence. The study concluded that healthcare workers' social demographic characteristics have an influence on adherence to the IMNCI guidelines in Isiolo County. Therefore, training and capacity building should be prioritized in order to improve adherence.
